National Friendly, the Bristol-based health insurer, has announced it is sponsoring Somerset Evergreens, a cricket team for veterans. The team is pictured above, including Captain, Maurice Perl (third left, back row).
Maurice, now 82, observed, “We’ve all played cricket for a long time and have progressively come down the ladder. The amateur league game is unhappily in serious decline and so aggressive about winning that there’s no place for veteran players like us who still enjoy playing friendly, social and inclusive cricket. So we decided to buck the trend, have successfully started our own team, and welcome like veteran cricketers who still seek enjoyable, friendly cricket.
“We are thrilled that National Friendly is sponsoring us. The company’s contributions will help us to establish a firm platform for a successful future. Its support for local community activities is admirable.”
Marketing Manager at National Friendly, Emma Smith, added, “We are delighted to be sponsoring Somerset Evergreens. National Friendly is very community driven and so it’s great to see a team of veteran players with a philosophy of enjoyment and involvement for every player as the driving force rather than just winning. Long may you continue in this spirit Evergreens!”
