Wayne Carter completes Swimathon in aid of Southmead Hospital Charity's NICU fund
Good news! I completed my Swimathon, raising over £1000 for Southmead Hospital Charity’s NICU fund. 50 lengths non-stop, which took me 26.16 minutes to complete. I want to give a big, big thank you to all those that dug deep to sponsor me, it was really appreciated. I have included a couple of photos of the day. There is one of me in armbands, they were kindly donated by Lucid Recruitment from Cardiff, well done Richard and the team! Very funny, BUT, thanks for the sponsorship.
I have written several small blogs and for those few of you out there that have read them, you will know I talk about how important my family are to me. This charity sort of ‘clicked’ with me, because it made me think how damn lucky I am to have three healthy children and three healthy grandchildren. I lost my brother and sister at a young age so understand the grief felt around that. Having said that, how difficult it must be to see your child/grandchild fighting for their life from the get-go and not being able to really do anything about it. So you put the life of your child/grandchild in the hands of amazing people that work in the NICU at Southmead. I have listened to my colleague Louise when she tells me how the unit helped her and her son (now 20 yrs old): She will be forever grateful for their work at NICU, that really comes across in the warmth and gratitude that comes across during her story.
So, albeit in a small way, I hope the small amount I have raised will help another family like Louise’s come away from NICU with their new baby in arms, heading home to start a great, exciting life together. Well done NICU.
My fundraising page is still open, so if you'd like to donate please follow this link here.
